This working group aimed to design and produce a School of Apocalypse Flag. The flag, which was be modeled on the pattern of a shelter-half, was also be capable of serving as workwear, school uniform, water collector, signal system, entertainment, and can easily be strung up to make a tent. More broadly the group considered how the role of garments/insignia are connected to the work of defining new contexts for inquiry.
Although no single flag was finally chosen for SoA, the Flag working group created a modular design for garments that could be strung together to make large shelter systems. Each individual flag created was designed independently according to the intentions, desires, and sensibilities of its maker.
The Flag working group held a flag-making workshop at Project: ArtSpace as part of the show "Making Progress" curated by Liz Atzberger and Kevin Curran. The final product from the workshop remained as part of the exhibition.
Working Group Members: Adam Stennett, Katherine McLeod, Catherine Despont, Eugenia Manwelyan, Jake Nussbaum, and Tal Beery.
